Music for the big boned...by, Skinny Friedman

We here have been no strangers to Skinny Friedman's work.  The Young Robots co-founder brought out the street smarts for his debut EP, Fat People On Drugs, out today.  Skinny lists Lil John, David Banner, and Afrojack among other influences.  Been real excited about "Back To The Trap" but "Politickin" also stands out closing out the set.  Be about this release if you're about some late night dark room stuff.

New Sounds From Boyfriend

Right on the heels of this summer's mega-hit Bashin'Diabluma Sound dropped another soon to be OG release; this time the tunes are coming from our favorite Lithuanian moombahtonista: Boyfriend.  Out today, the Vodka House EP is old fashioned moombahton brought to light.  With top notch production, tight as hell drums, and the Vilnius born producer's signature Euro-stylings this four track EP is a MUST HAVE for any die hard fan of the movement.  Florida bass head Big Makk gives an assist on the ultra-late night tune "6AM" and Nadastrom lends their club tuned ears to a fine remix of the title track bringing everything full circle for this long time contributor to Europe's 108 scene.  Boyfriend's Club Tropicana party has been a mainstay across the pond for the last few years and he will join Nada and co for the continent's forthcoming Berlin Moombahton Massive in December.  Get down to the sounds!

Don't Be Shy 006 with DAVID HEARTBREAK

We've reached our 6th installment in the "Don't Be Shy" interview series and this month Metal Top Hat is proud to welcome a true gentleman, David Heartbreak.  This guy has been influential in the growth of moombahton; in it to win it since the early days, Heartbreak is a pioneer in the moombahsoul/moombahcore sub genres and his work with Munchi will stand as some of the greatest tunes in the young movement's short history.  Heartbreak was featured in Generation Bass' "Moombahtonista" series and has gotten much love from BBC Radio 1, Mixmag, Mad Decent, and a ton of other spots on the net.  Most recently he was featured on the official remix EP for Skrillex and Damien Marley's "Make It Bun Dem"; he has a lot of stuff forthcoming so keep your eye on the dude. [Note: this interview was recorded in the middle of August]

Make sure and check out Heartbreak in all your social media circles:

Moombahton Massive 12 is TONIGHT

These are the quintessential moombahton parties on a national and international scale and tonight is no exception.  Curator's Nadatrom will again headline their signature event with a little help from the biggest moombahtonistas around, Sabo, Heartbreak, Munchi, and Jen Lasher.  If I lived anywhere on the eastern seaboard I would be making my way to our nations capitol tonight for what is sure to be another amazing MASSIVE.

New Sazon Booya feat :DFace

Here's a video preview of the new :DFace and Sazon Booya single "Let It Be" released yesterday.  This track is slammin' and I'd highly suggest checking it out immediately.  2012 is shaping up to be an enormous year for the Booya boys and with :DFace getting more and more exposure with tracks on major compilations, we're sure he'll be picking up plenty of facetime in the scene as well.  Below find a few choice cuts from the New England lad.

Canadian Moombahton Bringing the Heat

Released late last week on Burner Records, A-Mac and Paul David--two moombahtonistas from America's hat--are going all in with the Horizon EP.  The pair of originals along with a remix of the title track by LA kid ETC!ETC! heat up the dance floor and are being fully supported by many within the community.  Get on this stuff ASAP! Check the promo mix by A-Mac below

Also here's the Horizon remix with a free download!

Moombahton's West Coast Weekend

WEST UP!
The Golden State plays host to a string of big time moombahton parties this weekend and it all kicks off tonight in the city of angels.  Los Angeles hosts Rotterdam wunderkind Munchi at Muevelo for a night of debauchery featuring local producers 2 Deep, gLAdiator, and Benzona.

Saturday shall be equally interesting for both northern and southern California moombahton fans with SoCal enjoying the stylings of local boy Dillon Francis who'll be hitting up the OC for a party hosted by friends of MTH, Into The Am.

As for NorCal, pioneer and style chameleon David Heartbreak will grace the bay for the first time ever at Fever.  Heartbreak will be bringing the heat to the party and is ready to rock SF.

So for all of us lucky enough to live in CA I suggest getting down and dirty this weekend at one of these parties.  This sort of weekend is few and far between with three localities each getting a big time heavy hitter within the movement to come out and rock the decks.

Hoppen On Board

Woke up to some great tunage in my inbox this morning from the Netherlands.  Tim Hoppen, Prinsenbeek's own representing TMH Music sent along his promo material with a few moombahton tracks to get this Sunday cracking!  So now I'm sharing them with you; this kid is only 17 and has been producing tracks since he was 12 apparently so we here at MTH expect he'll keep improving and only get gnarlier and gnarlier once his horizons broaden with age.  Follow Tim on Twitter.

Wednesday Evening Moombah!

BANG YOUR HEAD!
It's hump day so I thought I'd pass along some music to bounce your week steadily closer to the upcoming long weekend.  Here are three tracks I can't get enough of lately.
Fuck Wit My Eardrums - DJ KLEVER x BILLY THE GENT by Billy The Gent
This is the lead cut off Billy The Gent's late 2011 comp Through The Wire and its dancy right outta the gate.  With loads of heavy bass and Klever's patented hard edge stylings, this track has been on REPEAT for me at the gym (I've never ridden a stationary bike so fast in my life).
2Hearts - Waltz Me Moombah (Original Mix) by Kick Around Sounds
Hailing from the American mid-west, 2Hearts brought out some classical dance moves for their contribution to last year's New Wave Of Moombahton release.  "Waltz Me" is a great show piece for the variety that really exists in this baby genre, from the heaviest of tracks down to a slow dance, it has a little something for everyone.
Doin Ya Thang (Sabo Edit) by SolSelectas
Every time this track comes on in my car I die laughing.  The vocal samples Sabo has laid in here just get me rolling, I imagine bouncing at the club then stopping, clapping my hands, and greeting the return of the beat with vigor.  Say, "we came to partayyyyyyyyyy"!!!

PRE-Moombahton

Pre-Moombahton here at Metal Top Hat consisted mostly of hard electro stuff and heavy metal.  But DJ Umb over at Generation Bass tells the complete story of the infamously slowed style out of the nations capitol with chimes from DJ Melo as well as other moombah-historians on the internet.  Check out the full story HERE.  And check out these two examples of the pre-Moombah era of latin house riddims.

it's on
Returning once again to the legendary U-Street Music Hall on January 18th it's Moombahton Massive XI featuring Nadastrom, DJ Sabo, Pickster One, and Bro Safari.  These parties are infamous for ass shaking, loud bass music, and people getting reallllll grimey on the dance floor.  Need proof?  Check this preview video for the upcoming event.

I'm looking forward to the next installment in the Moombahton Massive EP series which usually precedes these events, the most recent being MM7 from Sol Selectas.

thee Mike B
LA mixmaster (thee) Mike B dropped the third in his "Watch Your Ton" mixtape series and he so graciously is offering it up for free so we here at MTH thought we'd pass it along.  Featuring a handful of B's infamous edits and heavy hitters from Nadastrom, Riot Earp, Pickster, Melo, Ben Tactic, and A-Mac, it's sure to set the mood to any occasion.

BEST OF 2011

chicka yeah!
2011 has been the biggest year in the short history of the Moombahton movement so we here at Metal Top Hat wanted to take the time to run down our top 5 releases of the year.
5) Moombahsoul Vol. 1
Heartbreak's June compilation showcased the sexiest side of Moombahton.  Fans of the movement know it all began with "Shy Day" and blossomed into three volumes of fun in the summer of 2011 and this one started the ball rolling.  Heavy hitters DJ Melo, Riot Earp, Pickster One, Jon Kwest, Munchi, and of course David Heartbreak lined up to drop some smoothness on all of us.  Great for a summertime cruise through your neighborhood or for grooving with friends at a barbeque, the soulful tracks ushered in the warm temps with style and grace and still rock dance floors well into the cold months.
The Weeknd "Rolling Stone" ( Heartbreak's Remix ) by David Heartbreak Pickster - Stay Together Feat. Kris Hill by PicksterOne
DJ Melo & Jon Kwest - Ecstasy by azdjmelo
4) Verano Del Moombahton
Little material came into the blogosphere from pioneer Munchi this past year following a 2010 filled with releases.  One of the finest compilations to rise above the clatter was his summer release, Verano Del Moombahton.  Here again we're introduced to moombahton's versatility with tracks like "Jimi Knows" transforming nearly any type of tune into a dance floor destroyer.  Pickster One, Teen Wolf, and Sazon Booya are some of the highlighted producers.
Sazon Booya - Mis Armas |Verano De Moombahton| by Sazon Booya Munchi - Jimi Knows by Munchi
Hostage - Straight Raw by HOSTAGE

3) The Spring Of Moombahton
By far the longest release of the year was this massive compilation put together by Lightening Eyez and set free on the first of August despite its title.  Featuring both Light and Dark sides of moombahton and released simultaneous with the even larger re:BIRTH of Wildstyle comps, this 46 track set showcased the up and coming nature of the genre.  The through note of versatility again shined as listeners were treated to the gamut of styles intertwining their way into the moombahton subconscious.  Producers like Flubba, SAUR, 2 Deep, DJ MADD OD, and J-Trick flexed their muscles along with many others.
J-Trick & Anndyk - Blaze It (Original Moombahcore Mix) by J-TRICK Jungle Toaster by flubba
2Deep & babySTEPS - Horn Swag (Original Mix) by 2 DEEP

Moombahton Monday

Original Title I know
We here at MTH have been big supporters of the Moombahton movement for a few years now and with all the heat coming out lately, it's easy to see that this thing will continue harder and faster into 2012.

Rot10 Musik - The Take Over Vol. 1: Moombahton by Rot10 Musik
Rot10's Moombahton Take Over Vol 1 was released on Beatport last week to critical acclaim.  These cats at Rot10 know what they're doing, enlisting Sazon Booya, Kid Cedek, and ETC! ETC! among others to show the world what Moombahton in 2012 will be all about.

Generation Bass Presents:: New Wave of Moombahton Vol. 1 by ViciouzViv
Reaching the net today is Generation Bass' New Wave Of Moombahton Vol. 1.  This 2 "disc" comp features tracks from the hottest up and coming moombahtonistas; with the likes of 2Deep, gLAdiator, J-Trick, and again Kid Cedek lending their talents.  As with much of the music in this vein it's a free comp brought to us all by Mixmag.  Both Mixmag and GB have been huge supporters from the very beginning of Moombahton so you know there's some amazing stuff on this comp.
