Learn Your Lessons in Bass

In case you didn't know my origin story in the world of global bass, it all started at Coachella 2009 when I saw Buraka Som Sistema go CRAZY in the afternoon sun.  I had been getting into the debow'd rhythms hitting the Hype Machine of late but couldn't really put my finger on a specific act/sound that I was being drawn to.  After that sunny day in the desert I knew exactly what I wanted to rock going forward, the pulsating bass combined with wild ass live drums and africanized chants/movements sold me forever on these Portuguese maestros.  Branko is the new and upgraded alias of the groups beat master formerly known as J-Wow (according to the Mad Decent soundcloud he received death threats from various guidos/guidettes so decided to take the high road and find a new meaning in his name);  Going In Hard is his first release under this new moniker.  Jeffree's is giving it away for free along with some top notch remixes from French Fries, Beataucue, and Astronomar and Swick.  Check the previews below and DOWNLOAD RIGHT HERE.

Breakin' Hearts on Cloud 9...AGAIN

HBK is at it yet again, switching things up at every turn.  Today he dropped Cloud 9-Part 2 which is three wild tracks that escape definition.  Since I'm on vacation I'mma let the home boy do the talking for me; from the dude's FB page:
"Here is my newest free ep.... this one means a lot to me... because its the shit that i wish i could make all day, but it doesn't pay the bills... please listen to it... smoke to it, sex to it.. think too it.. enjoy it.. this is the real heartbreak.... the link is listed down below... take your time and really listen to this substance...."

New Wave 3 is Cresting

That dirty frenchman over at Walmer Convenience has compiled the third edition of the New Wave of Moombahton comp and it's pretty epic.  We're talking 16 delicious tracks showcasing the wide variety of talent in this up and coming genre.  Tracks from Kovary, Don Valdez, King Kong, DJEJ with MiniMaxX, Secret Sauce, and more!!  Everyone knows the latest is the greatest so why are you sitting back??  Get up and grab this just like the giant dude in the cover art!
Per Walmer:
Here it is. Volume III of the New Wave of Moombahton Series. Really happy how this turned out especially when Generation Bass and Moomba-Thong had set the bar so high. Some of these names you should already know, some of these names will be known to you soon. Wanted to really show the different directions you could take the genre in and this group of track exemplifies that. Wanna thank everyone who submitted and took this seriously, the hard work fucking shows. Wanna thank Evan Langley (Dj Vous) for doing the mastering. People have nothing but good things to say about it and wanna thank Bad Idea for the cover.
Enjoy.

Don't Be Shy 003 with :DFACE

Really excited to unleash upon you this month's edition of "Don't Be Shy" featuring none other than Rot10 Musik artist :DFACE.  Garrett was kind enough to call us up and chat about his life in the music world, his influences, his cultivation of the moombahton sound, and more recently his move to break away from the pack by creating melodic electronica at 110.  Take a listen!

He's fresh off tour and going wild in the studio and will be releasing free tunes for the rest of the year so make sure to follow this dude in the following spots:

Midweek Mayhem

Ladies and gentlemen!  We've reached the mid point in yet another great week for new music lovers and so it is again my pleasure to share some of my favorites.  It's sunny as hell out here in LA so it's some what torturous to be sitting in this cool air conditioned, windowless studio pouring over the dredges soundcloud has to offer but I take pride in bringing the heat to you out there in internet-land.  Fresh heat from David Heartbreak, Mendez, The Al Gore Rhythm Method and more this week so let's get it cracking!

Sin Diesel kicking things off with his forthcoming remix of Rot10 president Kid Cedek. Love the lurking drum work on this one as my man takes a seemingly darker approach than some other versions we've heart of this track.

FREE DOWNLOAD! El Cuco head honcho Mendez coming back again with yet another bootleg. Jump on this one while it's still available.

The Nadastrom remix of this still reigns as my favorite version of this Drop The Lime cut but I'll give the man props for this darker take on his own work.

Javier Estrada penned this theme music for LA based The Wood Class...met some of these dudes at Muevelo a while back, get at them if you wanna be mad swagged outta your mind.

Heartbreak calls this track a cross between "Trap Shit and Badman Rave". Good to see the chameleon back at it again with yet ANOTHER stylistic jump. Fans of this site know I'm a Marvel fan boy so mad props to Dave for donning the purple and green as well.

One of my absolutely favorite producers, Frenchman Douster dropped this new remix on us today. It debuted in the Thermal Teams most recent podcast and the awesome news is, IT'S FREE!

More Canadian moombah for y'all from the homies in TAGRM. Another step in a cool direction for this duo, we here at MTH look forward to more awesome productions to come.

Melo released this soulful, summer jam yesterday on his The Diamond King release. I suggest you pick it up immediately.

Here's another summer-tinged track from LA duo Poolside. Their "Daytime Disco" take on this cut from The Rapture has me yearning for a mojito and a chez lounge.

Yet another super-star team up for Dillon Francis, this time with Fool's Gold co-founder A-Trak. Make sure to check out the wacky video for this one featuring a handful of cool cameos.

Another lurky bass driven track and guess what...it's a FREE DOWNLOAD! Y'all know how much I love those...check out Doc Trashz FB page for more info on this Trouble and Bass artist.

In honor of Donna Summer's passing last week Riot Earp through together this club re-work of the Diana Ross classic "Missing You"...we here at MTH are also mourning the legendary disco artists passing, RIP.

This final track is somewhat a joke not sure if El Nomada is in on it but either way I like his 8-bitaton...haha.

So that'll do it for this week's new tracks.  Make sure to check in with us on Friday for some crazy mixtape madness!

Groovy Groves

If you've read this blog before then you know I have an appreciation for the soulful side of moombah.  You'll also more than likely be aware that I am an even bigger fan of the "old school" moombah-heads out there; of this short list there are a few people who rest atop.  Obviously purveyors like Nada, Munchi, and David Heartbreak have a certain place in any fan's heart but I'd say relaxing slightly below these "big three" for me are the two gentlemen responsible for this new free compilation.  Jon Kwest and Pickster One are names any MTH reader should be quite familiar with; their tunes have graced these hallowed pages since near the inception so it should surprise none of you that I'm going to hype the living shit outta their latest collaboration, Sex Tape.  This is volume 1 of what I hope will be a vast collection of expressive jams known as the Soul Series.  Download it RIGHT HERE.

These tracks don't disappoint; Kwest takes the lead off spot--not surprising, he was a huge part of the early innovations in moombahsoul with his contributions to Heartbreaks initial three comps in the movement.  The PHX don Pickster One grabs the baton and leisurely cruises down the back stretch with his flip of Lynae's soul lifting vocal for "Never Forget".  Of this release Pickster told me:
"The beautiful thing about Moombahton is that there is so much room for all these different styles within the genre. The sexy Soulful side of Moombah held a big part of the genre's development in its early stages. Me and Kwest are just trying to keep that side of things going."
Also featured on (as stated earlier) this freshman offering of the Soul Series is FL moombahtonista Big Makk who brings his well trained ear to the party with the lurky and yet somehow danceable original "What You Need".

The release closes with two more tracks from the stewards of soul (Kwest & Pickster) and leaves me longing for many more volumes to come (Pickster's "Lovely Day" remix will certainly be a dance floor jam in the coming months).  With the summer eagerly awaiting our arrival, I foresee many pool parties and patio jam sessions taking place with this and the future releases as soundtrack; I for one look forward with glee to the icy cocktails that will surely go along with these siorées.

Slow Month

So I know I've been lagging a tad bit these last couple months and I apologize.  It is in this spirit of forgiveness that I will be blasting off a little the rest of this week in order to try and make it up to all of you.  If you've missed me, I'm sorry.  If you don't give a shit, FUCK YOU.  Anyways, here's some heavy metal to cheer me up.

Ape Sh*t Remixed

Mr. Vega is the handsome half of moombahton heavy hitters Sazon Booya and I'm not sure if y'all caught his crazy single "Ape Shit" when it dropped on Subdrive Records in February...if not peep the action below.
Now as if this original release featuring KO-lition wasn't already enough (3 versions plus a B side...zeeee!), now it seems they're gonna drop a mother loving REMIX EP on our asses!!  From Vega himself:
"Kid Cedek, Curl Up and Chooky all killed the Ape Shit remix release. All different styles for different crowds but still BANG in every set. Curl Up's DNB remix for me is the best and i've been closing my sets with it for the last 6months"
This bad boy is set to hit beatport June 5th so be a good little bastard and grab it would ya??  Here are the previews.

Sazon Booya are currently destroying dance floors on the Bros Gone Wild tour with Tittsworth and Bro Safari, plus THIS WEEKEND they're gonna tear down the cosmicMEADOW stage at EDC:NY!!  So be sure to catch them in a city near you; now check out Vega in the following locales:

Just Another Midweek Pull

What's that you say???  You need some new tracks to freshen up your iPod??  Well looky what we've got for you today!  Freshness just as you should expect from us each Wednesday to get you on through to the end of the week.  Today let's start things off with some LB flavor.  Coming straight outta San Diego we got Acis with a discofied flip of the Dr. Dre and Snoop classic "Nuthin' But A G Thang".

Heard this today and had to drop it on ya...DJR hooked up with some homies and brought the HEAT, it's from all the way back in 2010!!!  Grab the Dutch Invasion EP from Southside Recordings.

Here's another club track from the Bmore legend Jon Kwest...it's a free download so grab it ASAP.

Dig the kicks in this new one from 5kin And Bone5 plus really loving the ambience. Got a real old school wubby garage feel to it. Plus FREE DOWNLOAD!! WOOT!

Yet another flip of Major Lazer's latest...this time Dutch producer Fellow gives it an even more reggae feel.

I was really getting tired of this current Trap movement...then I played this track and suddenly I'm back to it!! Nothing like some dark ass music to snap me out of a funk. Good look Steve Starks and Nacey.

FREE DOWNLOAD from the duder Skinny Friedman. This NYC producer is 1/2 of the Philadelphianz and this track is from his forthcoming release, Trap 2.0.

Last but certainly not least, a little moombashment from El Cuco don Mendez. My man is doing mad work right now and this is a must listen. Also make sure to cop his YMCMB boot while it's still up.

There you have it!  Eight more amazing cuts to hopefully tide you over till this weekend's massive parties (I know you college kids are getting antsy for the semester to end).  Fear not!  We shall return next week with more and more and more of the biggest and best in the moombahton world.  Until then make sure to check us out on facebook, twitter, and soundcloud to see what we're up to in our neck of the LBC.  PEACE, I'm outta here.

New 'ish

Did ya miss me?  Sorry for being absent all last week but I was taking so much needed vaca with my bro. We sailed the islands and I've returned refreshed and slightly more disillusioned with my work here at the MTH blog.  That being said I know I've got appearances to keep up and loving readers to impress my knowledge upon so here I am back at it again trying my best to bring you up to speed on some of the best of the best tracks soundcloud has to offer.  Without further ado let's jump in feet first shall we??  Really not feeling it right now so I'm just gonna lazily post without description...download dem freebies y'all.

Not even this track from Team Bayside High can get me pumped for this...

RIP MCA

Adam Nathaniel Yauch 1964 - 2012 RIP
The music world lost one of it's finest ambassadors today. We're sad to say that MCA, one third of the Beastie Boys, has passed away after a three year battle with cancer.  From the official Beasties site:
It is with great sadness that we confirm that musician, rapper, activist and director Adam "MCA" Yauch, founding member of Beastie Boys and also of the Milarepa Foundation that produced the Tibetan Freedom Concert benefits, and film production and distribution company Oscilloscope Laboratories, passed away in his native New York City this morning after a near-three-year battle with cancer. He was 47 years old.
In honor of the hip-hop pioneer we're sharing some of our fav tracks today.  RIP

Let's Partayyyyy

Who doesn't??  It's about that time loyal readers for this week's mixtape run through; when I hand select some of the finest tapes from some of my favorite selectas for you to get your party started off on the right footing.  Most of these are free download so make sure to grab as many as possible, put them on your iPod, blast them in your kitchen while you're cooking up your grits on Sunday.  Do what you wish with them but for the love of god don't NOT listen.  This week we've got mixes from Mister Moombah!, Bro Safari, Sazon Booya, and much more so without further ado...

Snoop-a-loop with a stoner mixtape??  This is a MUST listen.

Grab tix for HARD SUMMER RIGHT HERE Y'ALL.

Finishing it off with this awesome live set from Jeremy Sole from the Do Lab at the warmest festival in the US, Coachella.  Full of multi-national flavors as helpfully introduced by some unnamed MC!  Get on down to this one; for those of us who missed the elusive hipster-trap it's a nice way to experience some of the fun without having to deal with smelly hippies and other unseemly folks.

That's it for this week y'all.  Hope you're parties are a little better with my musical stylings to assist...if they are worse, I apologize.  Anyways, be safe, have fun, and most of all, embrace world peace.

After The DemBow Quits, Come Back With More Hits

This little gem hit my inbox Monday morning and I've taken these last few days to collect it, disect it, and inspect it.  All rhymes aside, this is yet ANOTHER stellar moombah-compilation curated by Zaid over at the 110 BPM Blog (you may remember Volume 1 of this series, if not check it out RIGHT HERE).  Volume 2 of the 110 Collection features totally radical tracks from some of our favorite producers including but not limited to, DJ Melo, CSK, Neki Stranac, Kovary, and much much more.  SoCal kid Rankin dives right in with his crushing track "Stroke The Saber" and this bad boy kicks into high gear.  Other highlights for me include the Ace Future track "Flip The Switch" and Colour Vision's flip of Q-Tip's "Vivrant Thing".  My hands down favorite comes from DJ Melo in the form of "Lluvia", a heavy dose of drums perfect for my long rides through South LA on the blue line.  All in all it seems these Canadians know a thing or two about moombahton so I'm delivering my co-sign to this sucker, do yourself a favor and grab it.  It's FREE!!

Make sure to check out the 110BPM Blog in all these fantastic places:

More Weird Stuff from South America

Y'all know I'm into that strange stuff...been trying hard to blow my mind lately with the weirdest of the weird and this set is borderline bizzare...but that's why I love it so much.  This one comes yet again from the crazy cats down at Coco Bass with plenty of whistles and kettle drums to keep me grooving; don't let the frightening grin of the album art scare you away from FLYBVCK, this Venezuelan producer will surprise you with his versatility.  From the extremely dark to the perfectly serene in five minutes or less, the Samedi EP is the perfect fix for a Tuesday night relaxing at home/chilling on the beach/raging on a cross continental drive/or pretty much anything.  Really diggin' the uptempo side of bass lately so this sucker hits the spot for me and I hope it'll do the same for you too.

Check this dude FLYBVCK in all these spots:

Everything's Sunny in Killafornia

The title makes me think of that awesome David Duchovny movie but the music makes me think of the darker side of things out here on the left coast.  LA homie ETC! ETC! is at it again with more original moombah-madness, his EP Killafornia is set to drop May 15th on Party Like Us Records and they've blasted out a soundcloud preview of the monstrous five track release.  Really digging "Kilogram" but all these suckers are gonna blow your pint sized ass out of your chair; only the heaviest drums and darkest synths make it on these cuts and it's just robotic enough to keep all the EDM heads happy.  The sheer heaviness of the whole EP makes ME happy, you know I like to mosh and bang some mother fucking heads; these tracks are perfect for mixing it up in the pit.  Key appearances by J-Trick and LeDoom add the perfect touch to an already stellar release.

Midweek Mayhem

It's my favorite day of the week y'all!!  Wednesday are killer around my studio, tons of stuff to do not a lot of time to get my thoughts out to the world so let's not waste any more and just jump right into some fresh tracks off my soundcloud dashboard!  First up, wanna re-affirm my approval of Ra Cailum's latest out this week on Think 2wice; just an all around solid release BUY IT RIGHT HERE and enjoy a taste below.

I posted a link to the Rolling Stone preview of Thelophilus London's remix EP on the facebook a while back but this is definitely another new release worth picking up, do so RIGHT HERE.

Sticking with this theme of fresh releases, here's Mackai's contribution to Club Cartel's Moombah-heat Vol. 1; grab the whole thing RIGHT HERE.

Now on to some FREE stuff, Pickster One's latest is a dancehall flip of Santigold's "Freak Like Me". Another solid track from the PHX don, always love when my man drops some free tracks on us all, thanks dude!

Sykur are a group of Icelanders who we've featured on MTH quite often and it seems they've hooked up with Dan Le Sac for a fresh remix of their latest output, "Curling". Interesting team up for sure, I've loved watching the evolution of these cats, if you've read this blog since the beginning you'll know I love me some Iceland.

The Eleven is the stage name for Dutch producer Kalok Yeung who chose to drop this track for FREE because it's gonna be sitting on some record company shelf for a few months so grab it while it's hot, hot, hot!

Back to the moombah flavor, love the drums on this one from Vato Gonzalez.  Heavy 110 + scratch work + free download = gotta give it to y'all.

Aside from being one of my fav tracks from the homie David Heartbreak, Arroz Con Pollo seems to be the moniker of a Brooklyn based moombah outfit. This track is perfect for the upcoming warm months so I thought I'd throw it out for all to enjoy.

Now one of the most excellent young producers coming out of Europe today, Bambounou. Been keeping my eye on this dude since Sound Pellegrino's Straight From The Spring release and his stuff never disappoints.

This track just hit soundcloud but has been making the rounds a lot lately...just an all around jam. Remixes from Jay Fay, JWLS, and more coming soon; big up to Craze for dropping this on us today just in time!

Well that's it for today everyone. Hope my selection is to your liking, make sure to check us out on Facebook, twitter, and soundcloud and stay tuned to MTH for mixtapes and a few EPs in these next couple days. Bye for now!
